Wellis vs Dream Maker vs AquaZen: How to Compare the Hot Tub Brands on Our Floor

Filled and lit display hot tub on the showroom floor at Cincinnati Pool and Patio on Reading Road, where Wellis, Dream Maker and AquaZen spas sit side by side for wet testing
A filled, lit display spa on our Reading Road floor. The honest way to compare hot tub brands is to sit in them, in the same building, on the same afternoon.

Type “best hot tub brands” into Google and you get ranked lists. Read the fine print and most of them are written by a manufacturer, or by a dealer that ranks the line it sells at the top. That is not dishonest. It is just not useful to a homeowner in Loveland or Fort Thomas who wants to know which spa will feel right in February and still be running well in year eight.

Cincinnati Pool and Patio has sold and serviced hot tubs in Cincinnati since 1966. Three brands sit on our floor at 10731 Reading Road in Evendale: Wellis, Dream Maker and AquaZen. We carry all three on purpose, because they answer three different questions. This guide lays out how they differ on the facts the brand pages publish, and how to compare them the way we do, which is wet.

The short version

  • There is no single best hot tub brand. The best one is the spa whose seats fit your body, whose power needs fit your house and whose insulation fits a Cincinnati winter. Brand rankings online cannot tell you any of those three things.
  • Wellis is the premium European line on our floor: 20 models, 3 to 9 seats, 30 to 88 jets, acrylic shells, full-foam insulation and a composite frame with no wood to rot.
  • Dream Maker is the value and convenience line: 26 models, 4 to 7 seats, 20 to 50 jets, rotationally molded shells, and many models run on a standard household outlet.
  • AquaZen sits between them: 8 models, 3 to 7 seats, one build level across the line, with the no-rot frame, Scandinavian insulation and dual comfort zones.
  • Every spa we sell is filled and heated on the floor so you can wet test it. Call ahead and we will have the two or three you are deciding between ready to sit in on the same visit.

What is the best hot tub brand?

Direct answer

The best hot tub brand is the one whose spa fits your body, your electrical service and your climate, and whose dealer is close enough to help after delivery. On our Cincinnati floor that means choosing between Wellis, Dream Maker and AquaZen by seat fit, power and insulation, not by a logo on a national ranking.

This store has sold hot tubs since 1966, and the honest answer has never changed. Two spas with identical jet counts can feel completely different once you are sitting in them. Seat depth, where the jets land on your shoulders, whether the lounger holds someone your height: none of that shows up on a spec sheet or on a ranking written three states away.

So when someone walks in with a brand already picked from a list, we do not argue with the list. We ask how many people will actually use the spa most weeks, where it is going to sit, whether they want a lounge seat, and whether the house has a spare 240V circuit or just an outdoor outlet. Those four answers usually narrow three brands and fifty-odd models down to two spas. Then we heat both and let the person decide with their back, not their browser.

What is the difference between Wellis, Dream Maker and AquaZen?

Direct answer

Wellis is the premium line, designed in Europe with acrylic shells, full-foam insulation and up to 88 jets. Dream Maker is the value line, with rotationally molded shells and many plug and play models. AquaZen is the middle ground, eight models built to one level with the no-rot frame and dual comfort zones. All three are on our floor.

Wellis is the premium line on our floor. The line on our floor runs 20 models, from the three-seat Oslo Life and Manhattan Life up to the Olympus, which seats nine and carries 88 jets. The shells are acrylic, the cabinets are full-foam insulated, and the frame is a composite that will not rot, warp or weaken, which matters on a damp Ohio patio. Most Wellis models have dual comfort zones, so two people can run different levels of massage at once. The Houston, with seven upright seats and two massage pumps, is one of our best sellers for exactly that reason.

Dream Maker answers a different question: how do I get a real hot tub into my backyard without an electrician and without a crane. The shells are rotationally molded rather than acrylic, which makes them lighter, durable and easier to move through a gate. The line is 26 models across four collections, Comfort, Cabana, Contour and Crossover, seating four to seven with 20 to 50 jets. Many of them run on a standard household outlet. The letter at the end of a model name tells you the layout: an L model has a full-body lounge, an S model is all upright seats.

AquaZen is the newest of the three on our floor and the simplest to shop. There are eight models, seating three to seven, and every one of them gets the same build. There is no good, better and best to sort through. You get the frame that will not rot, Scandinavian insulation that holds the heat in, and the same dual comfort zone idea Wellis uses. You can see the AquaZen models alongside the other two on our hot tub showroom page.

Which brand is right if you want a plug and play spa?

Direct answer

If you want a spa that runs on a standard outdoor outlet, start with Dream Maker, where many models are built for it, or the two Wellis plug and play models on our floor, the Oslo Life P&P and the Milano Life P&P. The Milano Life is also sold as a 240V spa, so you can upgrade later.

This is the fork that settles more brand decisions than any other. A 120V spa plugs into an outdoor outlet and is soaking that night, with no electrician. The trade is heat: it warms slowly from a cold fill, which you notice most on a January night in Mason. A 240V spa heats several times faster but needs a licensed electrician and a dedicated circuit. The whole decision is in our plug and play hot tub guide.

What it means for brands: Dream Maker was built around the outlet, so if you have no 240V service that is where the most choices are. Wellis gives you two plug and play spas, the three-seat Oslo Life and the five-seat Milano Life, and the Milano is the rare model that lets you change your mind later. The AquaZen page makes no power claim, so ask us which of its eight models fits your outlet before you fall for one. We deliver the spa and go over the site and electrical requirements before it arrives. The circuit itself, if you need one, is your electrician’s job.

How do the three brands handle a Cincinnati winter?

Direct answer

All three hold heat through an Ohio Valley winter with a sound cover on. Wellis and AquaZen use a no-rot frame and Scandinavian-style insulation that puts the motor’s warmth back to work. Dream Maker leans on its molded shell and smart insulation to hold heat with less power. The cover and your habits decide the rest.

People shop hot tubs here in October and November for a reason. The best soaks of the year happen on cold, snowy nights, and every brand we carry is built for that. Where they differ is construction. Wellis and AquaZen both skip the wood frame entirely, which is the part of a spa cabinet that rots first on a wet patio through freeze and thaw. Both use the Scandinavian insulation approach that traps the heat the motor throws off and feeds it back into the water. Wellis adds full-foam insulation inside an acrylic shell.

Dream Maker takes a lighter path: a rotationally molded shell paired with insulation designed to hold heat with less draw. In practice the biggest winter variable is not the brand at all. It is the cover. A waterlogged cover leaks heat out of any spa on our floor, which is why we wrote a separate guide on when to replace a hot tub cover, and why how you run it gets its own post on hot tub running costs in an Ohio winter.

How should you compare hot tub brands in a showroom?

Direct answer

Call ahead, name the two or three spas you are deciding between, and wet test them on the same visit. Sit in every seat, run the jets on high, check where they land on your shoulders and lower back, and see whether the lounger holds you without floating you. Bring the person you will soak with. Then decide.

Our floor is arranged so you can walk between a Wellis, a Dream Maker and an AquaZen in a few steps, and the spas are heated and ready. Here is the routine we walk people through. Sit in the seat you expect to use most, then the one next to it, because the seat you think you want is often not the one that fits. Turn the jets to high and listen. Check whether the footwell gives you room or pins your knees. If a lounger is on your list, lie back in it with the water moving. Taller people float out of short loungers, and no brochure will warn you.

Then look at the practical side. Measure the spa you liked against your gate, your deck and the path from the driveway, which we covered in our guide to hot tub sizes for Cincinnati patios. Ask about water care, because a spa is a chemical relationship as much as a purchase, and we test spa water for free at the same store that sells the spa chemicals to fix it. Our hot tub buying guide covers the rest of the checklist.

When should you not buy a hot tub from us?

Direct answer

If you have sat in a brand we do not carry and it fit you better than anything on our floor, buy it from the dealer who stocks it. Fit beats brand loyalty in both directions. Also wait if your site is not ready: no level pad, no delivery path or no plan for power means the spa sits unused.

We would rather lose a sale than sell a spa you will not get in. If a national brand has already won you over and you have actually sat in it heated, with the jets running, go buy it from the people who stand behind it locally. The risk runs the other way too. A spa ordered from a ranking and freighted to the driveway has nobody local to call about the pump, and its water still has to be tested somewhere. Ours gets tested free at our pool store on Reading Road.

The other reason to wait is the site. A hot tub needs a level, solid pad or a deck a builder or engineer has said can hold it full, a clear path from the truck, and a power plan. We do not pour the pad, run the wiring or start the spa up, so if none of that is in place, pick the model now and schedule delivery when the site is ready. Once it is in, the hot tub maintenance routine is the same for all three brands, and we are on Reading Road six days a week for the water.

If you are anywhere from West Chester to Florence and you want to compare the hot tubs for sale in Cincinnati properly, contact us or call 513-554-0000 and tell us which spas you want heated. Pricing and current offers change, so we quote in person or by phone rather than here. Come sit in a few. Your back will tell you which brand is best.

Frequently asked questions

Is Wellis a good hot tub brand?

Wellis is the premium line on our Cincinnati floor: 20 models designed in Europe with acrylic shells, full-foam insulation, a composite frame that will not rot and up to 88 jets, with dual comfort zones on most models. The best way to judge it is to wet test one next to a Dream Maker and an AquaZen on the same visit.

What is the difference between a Dream Maker L and S model?

The letter is the seating layout. An L model, such as the Contour 850L or Crossover 740L, has a full-body lounge seat plus upright seats. An S model, such as the Contour 850S or Crossover 740S, is all upright seats, which usually means one more person fits. Suite versions carry the same layout with upgraded trim.

Which hot tub brands run on a standard outlet?

On our floor, the Wellis Oslo Life P&P and Milano Life P&P are plug and play, and the Milano Life is also offered as a 240V spa. Many Dream Maker models run on a standard household outlet. The AquaZen line makes no power claim on our showroom page, so ask us about the specific model before you buy.

Can I try a hot tub before I buy it in Cincinnati?

Yes. Call 513-554-0000 ahead of your visit and tell us which spas you are deciding between. We will have them filled and heated at 10731 Reading Road in Evendale so you can sit in them with the jets running, compare seats and loungers, and bring the person you will soak with.

How much does a hot tub cost?

It depends on the brand, the model, the seating and the options, and current offers change through the season, so we quote in person or by phone rather than publishing figures here. Contact us or call 513-554-0000 with the models you like and we will send current pricing and a time to come sit in them.
